How to pose couples with a height difference (when the woman is taller, edition)

Are you struggling with planning pose ideas for a couple with a height difference? I have personally struggled with this in the past and have come up with some cute suggestions. It's more common to have a couple where the man is taller, but how should you pose them if the woman is taller?

  1. Create a fun environment and embrace the height difference

The couple has more than likely dealt with the frustrations of staring and comments being made so try to avoid talking about it too much. Your job is to normalize the idea so you create a comfortable relationship between you and the couple. The shoot should be fun, not awkward. To get the fun flowing start with a little exercise; Secretly telling each person, have the woman try to kiss the man while the man holds her hips and avoids the kiss. Set a timer for 20 seconds and after the time has elapsed the man is then allowed to kiss the woman. The first kiss will be passionate and perfect to capture!

2. Use a tree for her to lean against

Direct her to lean slightly against a tree. In one pose have him put his hand slightly above her shoulder against the tree. In the other pose have her hand placed on his chest. In the examples above, one photo they are looking at each other and in the next at the camera. In these examples there are 4 different changes. 1. Different sides of a tree 2. Different tree 3. Hand placements 4. Feet placement. For a 5th change you can switch from vertical to horizontal and a close up.

3. Have her sit and him stand

I had her sit on a bench here and him kneel down with their noses touching. I held a few flowers in front of the lens blocking partly where he stood to hide him bending down.

4. Have her straddle him

Here I had him sit on the ground with his legs straight out and her straddling him. Her legs wrapped around his back.

5. Have him lead

While holding hands have him stand a few steps in front of her with both people facing the camera. You can still tell she is taller but the emphasis is taken away from the height difference.

6. Have her lean her head against him

Here we are focusing on her and the ring a bit. Once again we are distracting you from the height difference rather than totally avoiding it. Don't try and make them the same height because they obviously aren't and their friends and family know it. You could also have his face pointed towards her kissing her cheek or forehead.

7. Use a slightly lower angle

You could utilize a vanishing point to create a different, yet appealing angle.

8. Utilize a birds eye view

I realize this pose won't work for every couple, usually the younger ones. Most of the time they will hate the idea until they see the results. She said she was happy we did this idea. I didn't get to pick this location but this works best where there is soft and fuller grass as well as a field of flowers! Their heads should be touching and their legs going opposite directions. Hover over them at a slight angle so their bodies go through opposite sides of the photo.
